About us.
Aplus Professional Studies has evolved from an
existing and established training business –
Accountancy Plus Training Ltd (A+ Training) -
with over 25 years experience of delivering
accountancy training. A+ has over 500 AAT students
of all ages and backgrounds. A fair number of these
progress to further professional studies.
As we have grown, so has our team of tutors,
including those with ACA, ACCA, CIMA and ATT
qualifications themselves. We therefore made
the decision in 2009 to start delivering this
training ourselves, supported by tutors with
considerable experience of delivering this training.
We have a lot of respect for the other training
providers in the professional accountancy training
field and our aim is to maintain that standard of
teaching, but provide it locally and cost effectively
to our South West client group and to add a personal
touch to that delivery and supplement it with practical
advice and guidance to both students and employers.
A personal touch.
In our previous incarnation as Accountancy Plus Training our
Matrix assessor referred to us in his report as “The Rolls
Royce of training providers”. The most recent Ofsted inspection
found that “Provision to meet the needs of employers and learners
is outstanding. Staff work very effectively with employers to
provide flexible training programmes to meet the needs of learners
and employers.” We have a relatively small team of full time staff
so when you phone you should get to speak to the same people, whom
you will get to know well over your period of study.
A practical approach.
We have evolved from a group training scheme which not only delivered
practical accountancy training but also provided technical accountancy
consultancy, practice management advice and also training needs analysis
and guidance on all things training and all things staff. Part of our
package is therefore to offer an annual training review on site and
telephone support on this throughout the year. We are able to take
both the student’s and the employer’s perspective.
Learning materials and study support.
Within our sister company, APlus Learning Innovations, we employ a
dedicated multi-media team to support the development of new on-line
learning materials and activities to support the more traditional
study manuals that we buy in from the established accountancy training publishers.
We’re sorry, but we can’t do the studying for you – but we can provide
you support. So if you if you get stuck or need some re-assurance on
any area of study, then you are able to contact your personal tutor
either during working hours or in the evening for advice and guidance,
or arrange a one to one appointment with us in Exeter.
Our background and track record.
As A+, in December 2008, we achieved certification in the Training
Quality Standard, with excellence in accounting. We were the first
provider in the country to have achieved this in respect of accountancy
training. This followed on from being recognised by the Learning and
Skills Council in 2003 as a Centre of Vocational Excellence in Accounting.
In addition to this, A+ was awarded Matrix accreditation for the
quality of advice and guidance given to learners in choosing their
course and career options.
In the 2005/06 report of the Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI),
we were recognised as one of the best training providers in the country.
Our MD, Simon Deane was a Training Consultant for ICAEW for many
years and has advised businesses on accountancy training matters
since 1984. Despite being an ACA member he has always ensured that
the company provides impartial advice on the relative merits of
the various professional qualifications and their suitability for
students and employers. He was President of the South Western Society
of Chartered Accountants in 2006/2007 and we retain strong links
with SWSCA and the South West panel of ACCA. Our ambition is to
ensure full provision of professional accountancy training locally
in the South West.
